Apeyron.io Limited, the company behind the Celeris digital trade platform, has integrated Enigio’s trace:original technology in Celeris. The integration lets importers and exporters on Celeris issue and exchange their trade documents as digital originals with the full legal standing of their paper counterparts.
For the past decade, businesses have been rapidly evolving; despite this, international trade documents and procedures still rely on paper. McKinsey estimates that digitalisation would save around $6.5 billion a year in direct costs and enable $30-40 billion in additional global trade.
To add insult to injury, the payment for the goods carries a cost of its own. According to Oliver Wyman and J.P. Morgan, corporates pay more than $120 billion a year in cross-border payment fees before FX costs, with around 74% of corporates describing these payments as slow, costly and unpredictable as per Capgemini’s World Payments Report 2027.
Celeris is a stablecoin-enabled payments platform that, together with Enigio, enables the documents and payments to move together. When the eBill of lading transfers, settlement can happen automatically at the same time, allowing for quasi-instant trade.
Thanks to Enigio’s trace:original being aligned with the MLETR and the documents being issued under English law, all issued trade documents on Celeris will carry legal weight.
Exporters, Importers and their logistics providers can now exchange documents, data and payments simultaneously on Celeris, powered by Enigio.
“I am inspired by what the talented team at Apeyron have built and their vision to modernise international trade. By combining legally-compliant digital originals with instant settlement capabilities, Apeyron and Enigio are helping businesses reduce friction, unlock working capital faster and complete transactions in minutes rather than days or weeks," says Amanda Evans, Director, Enigio.
“Enigio has been with us since day one. We chose them because their approach to electronic originals was complementary to our idea of digital trade: a document that is a true legal original, transferable in the same way as the paper it replaces. That became a fundamental ingredient of Celeris, and the way their team has engaged and supported us throughout has made the partnership as strong as the technology," says Edoardo Magagnotti, CEO, Apeyron.io
