Electronic Seal (e-seal) is a digital equivalent of a company’s stamp or seal, used to authenticate documents and confirm their origin. It ensures the document has not been altered and comes from a trusted source, and they can be checked with PDF readers like Adobe Reader.
E-seals are commonly used in contracts, invoices, and official documents to provide trust in digital transactions. The e-seal is issued to legal entities – i.e. businesses, not individuals.
The main benefits of an e-seal:
- For business documents. Used on things like Bills of Lading, they show that the document truly originated from a specific company. Bank guarantees also benefit, ensuring the issuing bank properly released the document.
- For certificates and diplomas. Schools, certification bodies, and other institutions can e-seal documents like diplomas, ESG certifications, and transaction certificates. This makes verification easy and prevents fraud.
In short, e-seals add a layer of trust and security to important documents, making them easier to verify and harder to fake.
In 2021, Enigio introduced a feature that allows users to e-seal trace:original document versions with a Qualified Electronic seal as defined in Section 5 of the eIDAS EU regulation.
