Stockholm,9th April 2024 — Enigio is pleased to announce that the International Group of P&I Clubs (IG P&I) has approved trace:original, enabling carriers and freight forwarders to issue electronic bills of lading that go beyond closed platforms and can easily be accessed by everyone in the trade chain.

The IG P&I approval of trace:original is a big step towards a trade document ecosystem that is open, flexible and accessible. This approval also makes it possible for trace:original eBLs to be insurable. Read more about how trace:original can benefit you at www.enigio.com

A flexible trade document ecosystem

Every trade transaction is unique, and trade documentation must be able to cater for every combination of requirements to be reliably useful. trace:original is document centric, meaning a freely transferable trade document capability with all data and assets kept in the document instead of a central database. This lets you have full control over where, how and with whom you store your data and digital assets.

It also means that the requirements of a given transaction are set in the document, instead of a central rulebook that might not be suitable for each transaction. To aid in interoperability, trace:original can support any document standard, such as ICC DSI, FIATA eFBL, BIMCO eBL and DCSA B/L.

An accessible trade document ecosystem

To achieve a fully digital trade document chain, it is crucial that everyone in the chain gets the ability to access every document they need. trace:original documents are freely transferable, meaning they can be transferred for free, to anyone, without any onboarding or subscription needed by  the receiving party.

The digital trade documents can be transferred on to the next party as many times as needed for the transaction to be complete. trace:original documents are pay once, use forever.

Patrik Zekkar, CEO of Enigio says: “
Trade documents on closed islands won’t go very far. Recognising this, we created trace:original as an open ecosystem, where documents can be transferred within, between, and even without any need of a platform. Anyone can dock-in trace:original’s technology in their existing systems environment, either stand alone or integrated  seamlessly. It is light, open and uses simple API connections”.
